How does multi-factor authentication (MFA) work?

Guys, I've come across this situation. Recently my friend lost his phone, and he had a bunch of linked accounts. He immediately got worried, because on some services he had only passwords. In the end, he was able to restore some accounts, but some of them he lost access to. After that he thought that perhaps he should have enabled multi-factor authentication beforehand to avoid such problems. Does anyone use it? How do you find it, is it convenient or does it only complicate life?

Yeah, I've had that happen to me too. I had a situation when someone tried to get into my mailbox. Good thing I had two-factor protection enabled, and without the code from the application, the intruder just couldn't get in. By the way, if you want to understand how it works, you can read here - what is mfa. All the nuances are explained quite well there. In my experience, MFA really saves you, especially if you work with important data.
