David Tang (Community Liaison)

linkedin-logo-copy.png

What’s up, I’m David, an OMS-I from Long Island. Basketball is my favorite sport to play and watch, and I’ve been playing lacrosse since high school, including club at the University at Buffalo. In the winter, you’ll usually find me skiing or snowboarding. Staying in the best shape I can through my workouts and diet (sometimes) is how I stay balanced during the med school grind. As Community Liaison, I’m looking forward to getting us more involved with the local community through sports and staying active.

Jake Friedenberg (Vice President)

Hi everyone! My name is Jake, and I am an OMS-1 at TouroCOM. I’m originally from New Jersey and grew up playing a variety of sports, including football and baseball. During my time at Penn State University, I continued to stay active by competing in ultimate frisbee and disc golf, both recreationally and at a competitive level.
Staying active has always been a key part of my physical and mental well-being. Currently, I enjoy weightlifting, hiking, disc golf, and pickleball in my free time. I’m excited to combine my passion for physical activity with medicine and to stay involved in my community.

Jennifer Stevens (Treasurer)

Hi everyone! My name is Jennifer and I am an OMS-I at TouroCOM. I’m from central Connecticut and grew up playing multiple sports including hockey, soccer, lacrosse, tennis, swimming, and water polo. I attended Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where I was a member of the hockey team! Since graduating, I stay active by running, swimming, or rollerblading as much as possible. Also, I love spending time outside, whether hiking, playing pickle ball, or just walking with my friends! Maintaining an active lifestyle has always been an important outlet for me, not just physically, but mentally as well. I’m excited to continue sharing my appreciation for exercise and overall wellness with my classmates at TouroCOM!

Mayuko Yatsu (President)

Hello everyone! My name is Mayuko, and I’m a first-year student at TouroCOM. I grew up in Japan through high school, where I practiced Japanese archery (Kyudo) and developed a deep appreciation for the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of traditional Japanese culture. I later moved to the U.S. for college and spent years in DC, Maryland, and Virginia for graduate school, work, and postbac premed studies.

Physical activity has been a central part of my journey in the U.S. I’ve danced salsa and bachata for about 10 years (Rueda de Casino is super fun!), and I also enjoy Zumba, yoga, and martial arts (recently boxing!). Through social dance and fitness communities, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with wonderful people and blend my Japanese cultural values with those of Latin and Caribbean cultures, which has greatly shaped my personal growth. I’m excited to continue promoting physical and mental wellness within the TouroCOM community!

Sorav Mahal (Secretary)

Hi everyone! My name is Sorav and I am an OMS-I at TouroCOM. I’m from Ohio and have always enjoyed staying active through a mix of lifting, basketball, and spending time outdoors. Whether it’s getting in a good workout, playing pickup games, or going on hikes, physical activity has been a big part of how I stay balanced during the challenges of medical school.

I’ve always been interested in the connection between movement, health, and overall well-being, and I believe staying active plays a huge role in both physical and mental resilience. Outside of school, I also enjoy gaming and finding new ways to challenge myself, both mentally and physically.

As Secretary, I’m excited to help support the team and contribute to building a community that promotes staying active, connected, and healthy throughout our time at TouroCOM.
