Safari Challenge (University of Washington School of Medicine)

Chances are you've heard of the great WWAMI Safari of UWSOM's clinical years. Now let us introduce to you...The Safari Challenge! What is it? It's a collective UWSOM goal to travel virtually from Laramie, Wyoming to Anchorage, Alaska, stopping at each WWAMI main campus on the way, a total of 3,769 miles. The event will take place within the timeframe of summer, June 20th - Sept. 22nd, and to make this more interesting, activities can take place in any form of person-powered locomotion. That includes, walking, wheel-chair, rowing, crab walking, and much more. You choose your form of locomotion and add your mileage to both your personal total over the summer and to the entire UWSOM's total in order to collectively reach Anchorage by the end of the summer. We're asking participants to track their mileage weekly or biweekly through the following survey. If you forget to track your mileage for a few weeks, no worries, just enter your data when you remember. We will periodically provide updates on our collective progress through emails and through our Instagram, so stay tuned! Over the course of the summer we will have events at various sites around WWAMI to help encourage people to stay active and register mileage. If you are interested in hosting an event at your site, please email Levi Bale at levibale@uw.edu so he can grant your access to the event registration spreadsheet. We are asking for a $10 donation to participate in the activity. Additionally, we are asking participants to raise more money by asking friends and family to participate in the giving. Sponsors are able to give an amount of their choosing, or can give a "WWAMI donation": Laramie - $5 Bozeman - $10 Moscow - $15 Spokane - $20 Seattle - $25 Anchorage - $50 100% of the proceeds will be going toward our philanthropies: Outdoors for All, Girls on the Run, King County Play Equity Coalition, and Medicine in Motion.
